Welcome to my blog. I live in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle on an Urban Farm (w/ five laying hens and a huge garden). I am a trained chef (w/ a certificate in food preservation), taught at a cooking school & like to share 'kitchen hacks' - culinary tips that save time, money & maximize flavor. If that isn't enough, I also run a food+tech startup called Barn2Door.com - a platform to help everyone easily find & buy food directly from farmers, fishers & ranchers (from CSA's to urban farm eggs to 1/2 a grass-fed cow).

My Mummy Juice recipe made it into a cookbook! Foodista Best of Food Blogs Cookbook: 100 Great Recipes, Photographs, and Voices---published by Andrew McMeel Publishing and available on Amazon and in Barnes & Noble---came out on Oct 19, 2010! In fact, November 3 is our release party in Seattle---I cannot wait to meet other contributors!

As you well know: the publishing world is changing, Kindle is mammoth, bloggers' voices are getting noticed. Foodista---a Seattle based, online reader-edited Food Dictionary (think: the food version of Wikipedia)---decided to capture some of the food blogging talent and put together a cookbook. Over 1500 recipes were submitted for this cookbook. They eventually narrowed it down to 100 recipes---and 100 food bloggers. The fun? There are food bloggers from all over the world, and an excerpt about each one next to their respective recipe.

My winning recipe is Mummy Juice: a cocktail I made up one year for Halloween (p.s. good timing on the book release!) that combines the zest of orange and ginger plus smooth golden rum and a splash of soda. For Halloween, it is well-served in a gauze-wrapped glass. The rest of the year, this 'Mommy Juice' is a perfect reward for a long day of good-mommying. Sometimes, we need a tad bit of recognition for all of our efforts... and sometimes that means buying ourselves a latte, enjoying some vino or pouring some Juice... for Mommy. (Sippy Cups are optional).
